Pfc. Dustin D. Gross, age 19, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, died on May 7, 2012, in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Dustin graduated from Montgomery County High School in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. He joined the military in 2011. He had only been in Afghanistan for a few weeks before his death.

High school officials describe Dustin as a hard worker who was unafraid and who gave his best.
Friends said that Dustin planned to spend four years in the military and then return to Kentucky to become a police officer.
Friends describe Dustin as a true hero, who had a strong will and who was determined to make a better life for himself. He is also described as being humorous, fun to be around, and soft hearted.
Dustin is survived by many loving friends and relatives.
Pray for the 19 year olds who die in combat. Yesterday, they were just boys.
Let us pray that Dustin Gross is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
