Derek Kerns

Cpl. Derek A. Kerns, age 21, of Woodstown, New Jersey, died on April 11, 2012, near Agadir, in southern Morocco. 

Derek was a MV-22 crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, Marine Aircraft Group 26MV-22 based at New River Air Station in North Carolina.

Derek died when a helicopter crashed during a military training exercise in Morocco. 

Derek graduated from Woodstown High School. He joined the Marine Corps from Fort Dix in September of 2008 and was promoted to the rank of corporal in December of 2010. 

His awards include the Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and a certificate of appreciation.

Family members stated that Derek was doing what he had always wanted to do which was to join the military and serve his country. 

Derek is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Carol Kerns; his father and his wife - Bruce and Sherry Kerns; sister Jessica Kerns; his wife, Mechele Nikole Kerns and their 3 month old son, Aydin James Kerns.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Derek Kerns is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
