He was assigned to the 385th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne), XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
He was shot and killed by a man wearing Afghan military or police fatigues during a protest over the burning of Qurans on a U.S. air base.
Timothy grew up in the Roanoke Valley and graduated from Northside High School in 2007. He had been in the Army for about four years, including time in the Reserves. He was set to be promoted to sergeant on March 1.

Tim was known as "T.J." to his family and friends. Friends stated that Tim was an upbeat, funny person.
Family members describe him as a good person who kept his word and who was always looking on the bright side of things.
Timothy leaves behind many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Mikki Wray; father Tim Conrad Sr.; sisters Alex Conrad and Amanda Meland; brother, Austin Wray; his wife, Holly and their 7 month old son, Bentley.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Timothy Conrad Jr. is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
