Dennis James Jr.

Spc. Dennis James Jr., age 21 of Deltona, Florida, died on August 31, 2011, from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Wardak province, Afghanistan. 

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, Louisiana. 

Dennis joined the Army in June 2008. After training he arrived at Fort Polk in November 2009. He deployed with his unit in October 2010 to Afghanistan.

Dennis was a former student at Pine Ridge High School in Deltona, where he played football and basketball and was a member of the track team.

Friends describe Dennis as a hard worker and as popular in high school. 

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Dennis is survived by his aunt and uncle.
