Mark J. Downer

Spc. Mark J. Downer, age 23, of Warner Robins, Georgia, died on August 5, 2011, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade. 

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Jesus, pray for Mark

Mark Downer was a combat medic with the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He joined the Army in December 2009 and was assigned to Fort Drum in June 2010. He was deployed with his unit to Operation Enduring Freedom in March.

Mark is survived by his parents and a child.

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Combat Medic Badge.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Mark J. Downer is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
