Jered W. Ewy

2nd Lt. Jered W. Ewy, age 33, of Edmond, Oklahoma, died on July 29, 2011, at Paktia, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Saint Sebastian, martyr,
pray for Jered and for
Kyla, who will never
know her father.
Jered Ewy enlisted in the Army Rangers in 1998 and was one of the first troops on the ground in Afghanistan after Sept. 11, 2001. He served three tours of duty and joined the Army National Guard immediately after leaving the Rangers. He earned a bachelor's in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated from Officer Candidate School with the rank of second lieutenant.

Friends of Jered Ewy remember the former gymnastics coach as a warm and friendly man who instilled discipline as he taught.

Military officials describe him as a brave and committed man who is a hero.

Jered is survived by many loving relatives and friends including his wife, Megan and infant daughter, Kyla,
his parents, one brother, three sisters, five nephews and a niece.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jered W. Ewy is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

This is not a prayer request, but a thank you. Jered Ewy is my cousin and I want to thank you for praying for him, his wife Megan, his precious daughter Kyla and the rest of our family. Actually, I am going to ask you to pray...will you please pray for the members of Westboro Baptist Church? They are planning to protest Jered's funeral and I have been praying that they will find love in their hearts and can ask God to forgive them their egregious acts and thoughts.

With much gratitude and love - Marni
