Gerhardus joined the Foreign Legion in May of 2008. He completed training with the 4th Foreign Regiment - Castelnaudary and later joined the ranks of the Foreign Parachute Regiment - Calvi in August of 2008.
Military officials describe him as having strong military qualities and a pleasant personality.
During his three years of service, he made a short mission to Djibouti in 2009 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.
He was awarded the bronze medal of National Defence clip "Foreign Legion" and "Mission of external assistance," the French Commemorative Medal clasp "Afghanistan" and the NATO Medal "non article 5."
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Gerhardus Jansen is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
