Raphael Arruda

Cpl. Raphael Arruda, age 21, of South Ogden, Utah, died on July 16, 2011, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, when the vehicle he was driving struck an improvised explosive device. 

He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves 744th Engineering Company, 2nd Platoon, based in Ogden, Utah. 

He enlisted in 2008. Raphael was a combat engineer on his first tour in Afghanistan. He had been there since the Fall of 2010.

Family members stated that Raphael liked what he did in the military and planned on studying engineering at the University of Utah after completing his service. 

Raphael is also described as being the life of the party and passionate about people. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Raphael Arruda is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
