Pfc. Robert L. Voakes Jr., age 21, of L’Anse, Michigan, died on June 4, 2011, in Laghman province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 793rd Military Police Battalion, 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
He graduated from Baraga High School in 2009. School officials described him as a quiet, polite young man who went about his business and who was well-liked by everyone. Robert is also described as having a quiet wit and a great sense of humor.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Robert L. Voakes Jr. is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
