Michael B. Cook Jr.

Pfc. Michael B. Cook Jr., age 27, died in central Iraq on June 6, 2011, during a rocket attack.

Michael had been serving as an adviser for Iraqi national police at a base in eastern Baghdad when the rocket fire took place. He had been in Iraq since November, 2010. 

A 2003 graduate of Salem High, Michael Cook's father and mother — Michael B. and Patti Cook — live in Salem, as do his siblings, Lucas and Kimberly Cook.

His wife, Samantha, is in Ft. Riley, Kansas; they have two children, Hailee and Michael B. Cook III.

High School officials stated:  "Michael was very involved in the computer applications program. He actually worked an independent study with a computer teacher to create yearbooks for the fifth graders in the elementary schools in the district. Basically this was Michael's idea, and they actually continue today." They also described his death as a tragic loss. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Michael B. Cook Jr. is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
