The Dogs of War.....

British Lance Corporal Liam Tasker, age 26, from Fife, was killed by a Taliban sniper in the Helmand province in March of 2011.

He and his dog Theo have been praised for saving thousands of lives during their five month tour of duty in the province, which saw them uncover a record number of hidden bombs and weapons caches in Afghanistan.

Theo died hours after L/Cp Tasker of what many believe was a broken heart. However, it may have been from physical shock.

Now the patrol dog has been shortlisted in the hero dog category of the Dog’s Trust awards that take place in June.

Liam Tasker's mother, Jane Duffy, backed a campaign by some of his friends to get Theo nominated for the award.

Pray that Theo is running in the
fields of Heaven.  Pray that Liam is
watching him.

She stated: "They always give soldiers an award, but the dogs never get one. We felt it was really important."

"Without Theo, Liam wouldn’t have been able to do his job and without Liam, Theo wouldn’t have been able to do his. Together they saved thousands of lives - it was amazing, they did a really good job.”

Liam Tasker had stated that while he was serving in Afghanistan that Theo not only saved his life on a number of occasions, but “kept him sane”.

L/Cp Tasker’s family hope Theo receives the award posthumously on June 1 at the ceremony in London, which could go on to ensure more patrol dogs receive recognition for their work in the future.

Let us pray that Theo is running in the fields of heaven. And that Liam is there with Theo, as he always was in life. Amen.
