Kirifi Mila

New Zealand Private Kirifi Mila, age 27, was killed on February 15, 2011, when his vehicle overturned on a cliff while on patrol in the province of Bamiyan, Afghanistan.

Kirifi Mila was carrying out a routine patrol when the Humvee he was in left the road and crashed down a steep 30 metre cliff.  The accident happened near the village of Ferosak in the northeast of Bamiyan province.

Kirifi Mila, born in Samoa, was deployed to Afghanistan last year and is part of the 2nd 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment of the NZ Army based at Burnham Military Camp. He joined the NZ Defence Force in 2006 and was due to finish this current tour in April.

Military officials said that Kirifi was a popular member of the unit, who was well known as a colourful character and would be sorely missed by his comrades.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Kirifi Mila is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
