Robert Pitts - Police Officer Fatality - Indiana

Police Officer Robert Pitts, age 45, died in the line of duty on May 4, 2018, at a hospital in Indiana.

Officer Pitts was a member of the Terre Haute Police Department. He had 16 years of service with the Department. He had previously served for 6 years with the Sullivan City Police Department. 

He was known as Rob to his family and friends. 

A homicide had occurred earlier that day. Officer Pitts and other officers were involved in part of the investigation. They approached a suspect's apartment in Terre Haute. The suspect opened fire on the officers. 

Robert was shot by the suspect. He was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he passed away due to his injuries. 

The suspect killed himself inside of the apartment. 

Rob was a 1990 graduate of Sullivan High School, where he ran track. He graduated in 1996 from the Law Enforcement Academy. 

Rob enjoyed fishing, camping, shooting, four-wheeling and Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

The members of the Terre Haute Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Rob was a professional who died in the service of his community. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Robert's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Robert is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including but not limited to his mother and father; his sister and brother; his daughter and two sons; and many others who weep for him. 

Thank you for your service to the community, Robert. 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Robert is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
