Andres - a Good Samaritan in Los Angeles, California

Andres (L); Roy Lopez (R)
Just before noon on March 27, 2016, Roy Lopez, in his 90's, was sitting on the porch of his home in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles.

Roy is a World War II veteran and lives alone.

He didn't notice that his house had somehow caught fire. Smoke was billowing from the structure.

A man named Andres and his girlfriend were driving by the house when they noticed the smoke. They could see that the elderly man was trying to get back inside the house to see what was happening.

The girlfriend called the fire department and Andres ran to the house, jumped the front yard fence, and was able to lead Roy to safety.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire which may have been caused by burning candles. The house and its contents were heavily damaged.

Roy's family members are grateful to Andres and his girlfriend for coming to Roy's aid and for helping to save his life.

Neighbors who witnessed Andres' actions were very impressed by the speed and agility that Andres displayed in coming to the elderly man's aid.  One said that Andres was a superhero.

God bless Andres and his girlfriend. They are Good Samaritans.

God bless all who come to the aid of strangers in distress. Amen.
