Joseph Stifter - U.S. Soldier Casualty - Iraq

Sgt. Joseph F. Stifter, age 30, of Glendale, California, died on January 28, 2016, at Al Asad Airbase, Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

Sgt. Stifter was involved in a Humvee rollover accident and was fatally injured. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation. 

Joseph Stifter was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. He was a field artillery cannon crewmember. 

Joseph was supporting the U.S.-led coalition fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. 

He joined the Army in 2011 and had served at Fort Riley since January of 2012. He deployed to Iraq in October of 2015.

His awards and decorations include three Army Commendation Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Action Badge.

Joseph's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother. Military officials describe Joseph as an exceptional soldier and leader. He will be forever remembered.

Joseph's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Joseph is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents, his wife and his daughter. 

Thank you for your service to your country, Joseph. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Joseph is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
