Michael Hallenbeck - Firefighter Fatality - California

Michael Hallenbeck
Firefighter Michael Hallenbeck, age 21, died in the line of duty on August 8, 2015,

Mike was a part time firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service based at Lake Tahoe, California. He was part of Organized Crew No. 36.

Mike and other crew members were fighting the "Sierra Fire" near the Echo Summit Mountain Pass.

At about 5:30 p.m., during his firefighting efforts, Mike was struck by a falling tree. His comrades tried desperately to revive him. However, he was mortally wounded and tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Mike was from Shingle Springs, California which is located about 70 miles from Lake Tahoe.

Prior to working for the Forest Service, Mike had worked 2 seasons at the Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort.

The United States Forest Service is in mourning over the death of their young brother. Mike was excited to be a firefighter. This was his first major fire. He will be forever remembered.

Mike's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. Mike was a good kid who was into the outdoors. He liked snowboarding, hiking and all team sports. He played football, basketball and soccer. He was willing to try just about any sport. He was a hard worker and stepped up to the plate. His family is hugely proud of him. He is their hero. He will be forever mourned.
Florian, Patron Saint of
Firefighters, pray for Mike and
for those who have lost him.

Oceans of tears will be shed for Mike.

Mike is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents, Toni and Kirby Hallenbeck and his sister, Jessica.

Thank you for your service, Mike.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray for all who die young. They barely had a chance to live.

Pray that Mike is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
