Joshua Strother - a 6 year old killed by a Pit Bull dog in North Carolina

Joshua Strother, age 6, died on July 7, 2015, at his home in Henderson County, North Carolina.

Joshua was known as Josh to his family and friends. 

At about 4:00 p.m., Joshua was playing in the backyard when he decided to climb over a neighbor's fence.  He was bitten to death by the neighbor's Pit Bull dog. 

He had played with this dog previously. 

Joshua's mother was inside her home at the time of the attack and the neighbors were not at home. The neighbors had adopted the dog from an animal shelter and had only had it for 3 weeks. The dog was properly fenced. 

When Deputies arrived on the scene, the dog was so aggressive that they had to kill it so that Paramedics could get to the child. 

Tragically, Joshua died at the scene. 

The Henderson County Criminal Investigation Division and Animal Enforcement Division will investigate this tragedy. Nothing will come of this investigation because Henderson County obviously allows dangerous dogs in its jurisdiction. 

Pit bulls are vicious and unpredictable animals. They were bred 200 years ago for bull baiting, bear baiting and dog fighting. They were never intended to be family pets. They should never be around infants or young children under any circumstances.

young and old, including people simply passing by. They have killed grown women walking in the hallways of their apartment buildings; they have killed 40 year old men jogging by on a country road; they have killed toddlers playing on the floor.

Many towns and cities, counties and states do not allow pit bulls and related breeds within their jurisdictions. Pitbulls are banned outright in a number of European countries, period.

Where are the authorities in Henderson County and in North Carolina? Why do you allow Pit Bulls in your state? Grow up and wake up.

Pit Bulls and all related dog breeds should be bred out of existence sooner rather than later. They serve no useful purpose and are a detriment to mankind.

Death by dog is not acceptable in a civilized country. 

Joshua's family is devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a bright kid and could count to 100. He liked to ride his bike and to climb things.  He liked Spongebob Squarepants on TV. He will be forever mourned. 

Josh is innocent and is playing in the fields of Heaven.
