Scott Studenmund
Staff Sgt. Scott Studenmund, age 24, of Pasadenda, California, died on June 9, 2014, in Zabul Province, Afghanistan.

Afghan and international forces had carried out a joint operation against Taliban fighters on June 9, 2014. At the end of the day, the forces returned to their base, where at about 9 p.m. they came under fire from Taliban rockets. Airstrikes against the Taliban were undertaken which mistakenly hit U.S. and Afghan troops, killing Scott and four other U.S. soldiers, one Afghan interpreter and one Afghan soldier.

Scott graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School in La CaƱada in 2008. He later attended Pitzer College, but dropped out after a year to pursue his dream of becoming a Green Beret soldier.

His first overseas deployment was to Lebanon. His second deployment was to Afghanistan in January of 2014. He was expected to return home in August.

Friends describe Scott as a beloved and tenacious young man.

Family members stated that Scott worked his way up in rank in the military and that they are very proud of him. He was a go-getter and strived to be the best that he could be. He had always wanted to serve his country. Scott's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Scott is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives who will forever miss him.

Thank you for serving, Scott.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Scott.

Pray for the young men who die in war zones. They barely had a chance to live.

Pray that Scott is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
