Holden William Garrison - 10 week old infant killed by a dog in Michigan

Holden William Garrison
Holden William Garrison, age 10 weeks, died on June 8, 2014, in Michigan.

The child was sitting on his uncle's lap when the family dog tried to jump onto the couch. The uncle, age 18, pushed the dog away but the dog jumped up again and began biting the baby's head and throat. The child's father, Jeff Garrison, age 26, pried the dog's jaws open and was himself injured by the dog.

The police started CPR after arriving. The child was transported to one hospital and then another, where tragically he was pronounced deceased.

The dog, a 75 pound Catahoula cattle hound, also known as a Catahoula Leopard dog, was put down. These dogs were bred for hunting and tracking. This particular dog bit the arm of a neighbor several months ago, but no action was taken.

No criminal charges will be laid in this case. The parents were not negligent and the child was never left alone with the dog.

A broader issue is involved in this case and all similar tragedies and that is the issue
Do you want a dog with a mouth
like this around your children?
of whether large dogs of any breed should be kept in a house or in a yard where there are children..... period. This is a motherhood issue and everyone gets on their soapbox defending their right to have a dog. That is because they had a dog growing up and so did their Daddy and so did their Grandpappy and none of them were injured.

That argument has more to do with luck than it has to do with logic. Parents of infants and toddlers should NOT have dogs larger than toy breeds in the house or yard AT ALL.

Death by dog is not acceptable in a civilized country.

Holden William Garrison is survived by many loving family members and well-wishers, who will forever mourn him.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.

We know that this child is in Heaven.
