Jonathan Pine - Law Enforcement - Florida

Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Pine, age 34, died in the line of duty on February 11, 2014,  at a hospital in Orlando, Florida.

Jonathan was a member of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.  He had three years of service.

He and other officers had responded to reports of car break-ins in a gated community.  At about 11:00 p.m., the suspect, Benjamin Holtermann, age 28, fled the scene on foot.  He was apprehended by officers shortly after midnight.  He tried to flee on foot again.  During his attempted escape, he shot Deputy Pine.  Holtermann then ran a short distance and killed himself.

Deputy Pine was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect's girlfriend, Erica Pugh, age 18, who was also at the scene, was arrested and held in connection with the incident.

The Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother.  Jonathan is a hero
