Stephen Machcinski and James Dickman - Firefighters - Ohio

Private Stephen A. Machcinski, age 42, and Private James A. Dickman, age 31, died in the line of duty on January 26, 2014, at a hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

Both men were firefighters with the Toledo Fire Department. Stephen had 16 years of service. James had 6 months of service. Both men were assigned to Engine 3. 

Crews were dispatched to a fire in a two story, 6-unit apartment building. It was reported that people were inside the building. At about 3:30 p.m., Firefighters Machcinski and Dickman were searching inside of the building for occupants when they signaled a Mayday. Within several minutes the two firefighters were rescued but were both in cardiac arrest. Firefighters Machchinski and Dickman were treated and transported to the hospital where they both succumbed to their injuries.

The cause of the fatal fire remains under investigation by local authorities. Residents speculated that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short.

The Toledo Fire Department is in mourning over the deaths of their brothers.

The City of Toledo is in mourning over the deaths of these heroes. 

Stephen and James are survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives who will forever mourn them.
