Jon Schondelmayer - Firefighter - North Carolina

Jon Schondelmayer, age 44, died in the line of duty on December 18, 2013, at his home in North Carolina.

Jon was a volunteer firefighter with the Swift Creek Fire Department. He was also a Captain with the Cary
Fire Department. Jon had 19 years of service fighting fires.

Jon is described as a dedicated member of both fire departments.

Jon had served a shift with the Cary Fire Department that included several emergency response calls. He then reported for a shift at the Swift Creek Fire Department. On the morning of December 18, 2013, Jon felt sick and went home to get some medication. He felt he needed assistance and a crew member went to his home and found him unresponsive. Other Swift Creek responders began medical aid trying to revive him but Jon tragically passed away. He may have suffered a heart attack.

Jon was born in Muskegon, Michigan and attended White Cloud High School.

Jon was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Operation Desert Storm.

Jon's comrades at the Cary and Swift Creek Fire Departments are in mourning over the loss of their brother.

Friends stated that they will always remember his smile and kind spirit. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Loved ones describe Jon as a warm and kind hearted man.

Jon is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his son and daughter, Zayne and Alexis Schondelmayer; their mother, Cindy Ann Carleton; and his lifelong friend, Dana Redman. His parents and sister predeceased him.

Thank you for serving the public, Jon.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray that Jon is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
