Ian Fisher - U.K. Military

British Sgt. Major Ian Michael Fisher, age 42, died on November 6, 2013, of wounds sustained from an insurgent suicide blast while his unit was on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. 

Ian was a member of the 3rd Battalion of The Mercian Regiment (Staffords). 

Ian was born in Barking, Essex, England. 

Ian was a physics and geology graduate from Staffordshire University.  He joined the U.K. Territorial Army in February of 1993. He served for three and a half years as a reservist Lance Corporal.

He completed four previous tours of duty - Northern Ireland, twice to Iraq and a previous tour in Afghanistan in 2011.

Family members describe Ian as a doting father, loving husband and a truly professional soldier.  He loved being a soldier and his family if of proud of his efforts.  His family will forever grieve his loss.

Military officials stated that his regiment is in mourning over the loss of their comrade.  They describe Ian as a tough-talking, no-nonsense man with a quick wit and a sense of humor. He was well liked and respected by his men. 

Ian is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents Simon and Helen; his wife, Emma; and their two sons, James (age 7) and William (age 5). 

Thank you for serving, Ian.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Ian.

Pray that Ian is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
