Robert Bingaman - Law Enforcement - North Carolina

Police Officer Robert Bingaman, age 37, died in the line of duty on October 29, 2013, in Asheville, North Carolina.

Robert was a member of the Asheville Police Department. He had 6 years of service.

He was called Rob by many of his friends.

He was killed a single vehicle crash when his patrol car plunged off of the Jeff Bowen Bridge on I-240 onto Riverside Drive below. The accident happened at about 1:20 p.m.

Officer Bingaman was removed from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital. At that time, he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Robert was a former Marine. He served at Camp Lejeune from January 1996 to January 2000. He left the Marine Corps as a Sergeant.  Military comrades describe him as a good guy who always had your back.

The Asheville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their comrade.

Police officials stated that Officer Bingaman always came to work and did his job well. He was well respected and well liked. Others describe him as a compassionate and diligent officer who served his community with pride and unselfish acts of kindness. 

Robert is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty. Amen.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.

Pray that Robert is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
