David Knapke |
Lieutenant Knapke was a volunteer member of Williamsburg Township Emergency Services. He had more than 30 years of service with the Department.
On May 30th, 2015, David attended a fire in Mt. Orab, Ohio. The fire was extinguished but while still on scene, David suffered a heart attack. His fellow first responders performed CPR at the scene and used a defibrillator five times to get his heart pumping again.
David was flown to a hospital in Cincinnati. He became conscious a few times but slipped into a coma and was put on life support. Tests revealed that he had suffered brain damage. His previously stated end of life instructions were to not continue with life support under these circumstances.
He was taken off of life support and passed away on June 5, 2015, at a hospice in Cincinnati.
