Daryl Gordon |
Firefighter Gordon was a member of the Cincinnati Fire Department. He had 29 years of service. He was assigned to Department's Heavy Rescue 14.
On March 26, 2015, Daryl responded with other firefighters to a four alarm fire call to an apartment fire in the Madisonville district of Cincinatti. He was working on the evacuation of residents from the building when somehow he fell down an elevator shaft. He was rushed to a local hospital where tragically he succumbed to his injuries.
It is believed that in the smoke Daryl may have mistaken the elevator door for an apartment door. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
The Cincinnati Fire Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a brave and committed firefighter who put himself in harm's way in the performance of his duties. He had an upbeat attitude and was well-liked by his peers. He will be forever remembered.
