Karlie Hall and Gregorio Orrostieta |
Her boyfriend, Gregorio Orrostieta, age 19, has been charged with her murder.
Gregorio stated that the couple had gotten into an argument at a party on Saturday night and that she had hit him. He also stated that they had made up by the time they returned to her dorm room at 1:30 a.m. He stated that the argument erupted again at 2:00 a.m. and the fight turned physical. He stated that he had pushed her and she struck her head.
An autopsy revealed that this is not what happened. Karlie had been severely beaten and then strangled to death.
At 5:00 a.m., Orrostieta called the police. He was seen performing CPR on her and blood was smeared on his face. His face was scratched up indicating a struggle.
The couple had been dating for about 11 months. They had gotten into a serious fight in the Fall of 2014.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the event call Millersville University Police at (717) 871-4357.
Gregorio Orrostieta is innocent until proven guilty.
In the interim, we offer this advice to everyone in a relationship: The first time that
your spouse or partner (whether male or female) threatens you with a beating or death; holds a knife to your throat or a gun to your head, or throws an ashtray or a lamp at your face or punches you in the gut, or kicks you to the floor or gives you a black eye, start planning to leave - sooner rather than later. The relationship is over.
Everyone wants to be loved, but abuse and fear is not love.
Friends stated that Karlie was a finance major at the University. She is described as happy and helpful to others. She was always smiling and cheerful. She liked going to the gym and working out. She was a member of the school rugby club and gay-straight alliance in high school, and she volunteered at a local animal shelter. She was a hard-working student, who was working at a part-time job to help offset the cost of college.
A funding site has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
Karlie's loved ones are devastated over her senseless and tragic death. She will be forever remembered.
Karlie is survived by many loving friends and family members including her mother, Jeanette; her father; and her sisters, Kristen and Katelyn. She will be forever mourned.
God save us from those who say they love us and then kill us. Amen.
Pray for justice for Karlie.
Pray that Karlie is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
