Matthew Chism |
Matthew was a member of the Cedar County Sheriff's Office. He had almost two years of service.
Just after midnight, Matthew had attempted to stop a vehicle for driving with no headlights in El Dorado Springs. The vehicle fled and was pursued. At an intersection, the vehicle stopped and the passenger bailed out. Deputy Chism and the passenger started fighting and shots were fired. Both men were shot. The driver of the vehicle fled.
Matthew was transported to a local hospital where sadly he succumbed to his injuries.
The passenger of the vehicle, William Collins, age 28, died at the scene of the struggle.
The driver of the vehicle, a male from El Dorado Springs, also age 28, was arrested at a nearby house a short time later.
