Afghan and international forces had carried out a joint operation against Taliban fighters on June 9, 2014. At the end of the day, the forces returned to their base, where at about 9 p.m. they came under fire from Taliban rockets. Airstrikes against the Taliban were undertaken which mistakenly hit U.S. and Afghan troops, killing Justin and four other U.S. soldiers, one Afghan interpreter and one Afghan soldier.
He was a member of the 4th Brigade Combat Team based out of Fort Carson, Colorado.
Justin joined the Army a year after graduating high school in Sprague, Washington. He was on his second tour in Afghanistan as a gunner.
He planned to leave the military in May of 2015, study engineering and look for a job in the oil industry. He also wanted to marry his fiancée.

Angels of God, pray for Justin and for those who have lost him. |
Friends describe Justin as a good man who tried to to his best.

Thank you for serving, Justin.
Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Justin.
Pray that Justin is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
