Allen Bares Jr. |
Deputy Bares was a member of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office. He had previously served with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office. He had 15 years of service in law enforcement.
Allen was on his day off and was mowing a lawn at about 4:00 p.m. when he noticed that two men had crashed their vehicle into a ditch on a street in Abbeville. He called the incident in to the Sheriff's Office, then approached the vehicle and identified himself as a Sheriff's Deputy. As he spoke, one of the men drew a gun and shot Allen.
Responding deputies located Allen suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where sadly he passed away from his injuries.
The two suspects fled the scene after the shooting. They were in custody the next

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.
Sheriff's Office officials describe Allen as a fine officer who was caring, kind-hearted and spiritual.
Allen's loved ones are devastated over his tragic and senseless death. He will be forever mourned.
Allen is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two children.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers.
