Sophie Collombet - a murder victim in Brisbane, Australia

Sophie Collombet

Sophie Collombet, age 21, died on March 27, 2014, at Kurilpa Park, in Brisbane, Australia. 

It was the evening of March 27, after a night class, and she was walking from a local bus station to her apartment. She was walking along a boardwalk in the Park.  Sophie was found the next morning with extensive head injuries. She had been raped and killed. 

Ben Millward, age 25, has been charged with murder, rape and robbery.  

Sophie was a French citizen. Her family is from St-Julien-Mont-Denis, France. She was attending Griffith University where she was studying international business.

Sophie's boyfriend, Boris, had returned to France when his visa expired in February of 2014.  Sophie was planning on joining him back in France in June of 2014. 

Sophie's family describe her as full of life, always smiling, very intelligent and kind.  She is also described as an adventurer and inquisitive. She loved to travel and had friends everywhere. She had spent time studying in other areas of France, in Denmark, in Germany and finally in Australia.  

She spoke to her family by Skype once a week. Sophie was well-loved and will be forever missed.

Friends describe her as very friendly, happy and dedicated to her studies.

Sophie Collombet was the fourth international student killed in Brisbane since November of 2013. It may be in order for the Brisbane City Council and the Brisbane Police to issue an advisory to women to not walk alone at night in parks or isolated areas of the City. 

Sophie is survived by many loving friends and family members including her parents Corinne and Guy; her brothers, Lionel and Guillaume; and her boyfriend, Boris.

God save us from the Lost Ones who stalk the Earth stealing away life. 

Pray that Sophie is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
