Alex Thalmann |
Alex was a member of the New Bern Police Department. He had only 7 months of service before he was struck down.
On March 28, 2014, at about 11:45 p.m., Alex was conducting a routine subject stop at a intersection in New Bern. He was speaking to the male subject, who had been riding a bicycle. Alex called for backup and other officers arrived at the scene.
The male subject suddenly fled on foot and then opened fire, striking Officer Thalmann in the face and a second officer in the leg.
Alex and the other officer were transported to a local hospital where tragically Alex passed away 3 days later.
The subject was Bryan Stallings, age 35. He had a gun in his possession. He had numerous prior convictions including a sex crime conviction. He had told friends that he would never go to prison again. And he meant it.
The police department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He is described as committed to the service of his community. He did his best.
