Sean Ruane - U.S. Military

Sean Ruane and Rachel
Capt. Sean M. Ruane, age 31, died on January 7, 2014, in a helicopter crash in north Norfolk, England.

Captain Ruane was a member of the United States Airforce. He was one of the pilots on this flight.

He and three other airforce personnel were flying in a Pave Hawk Helicopter from the 48th Fighter Wing based in Lakenheath in Suffolk. The helicopter was on a low level night training mission and was carrying live ammunition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

There has been an American presence at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk, since World War Two, and it is the largest United States Air Force military base in Britain.

Sean was from western Pennsylvania.

Sean was a graduate of Montour High School in Robinson Township, Allegheny

County, Pennsylvania, where he played soccer and was a band member. He later attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

He had served three deployments to Iraq and two to Afghanistan. He was looking forward to returning to the U.S. in 2014.

Sean is described by loved ones as a good kid, a good son and a wonderful brother. He is also described as well-liked and popular but humble and unpretentious.

Sean is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Marcia Ruane; and his wife, Rachel and their 1 year old son, Liam.
