On that date, Wiyanna, Wesley and two friends - Emily Briggs and Nathan Jennings became trapped in Emily’s Subaru in the pouring rain while coming home from a birthday party in Boulder, Colorado. Three of them climbed out of the car to try to wade to safety. Wiyanna was nearly swept away once before Wesley rescued her, and when the flood pulled her away again, he dove into the water to save her.
Both Wiyanna and Wesley were swept away by the massive flood waters and tragically were drowned. The couple had been dating for 7 months.
Emily and Nathan survived and were rescued by firefighters.
Wiyanna and her family moved from Lompoc, California to Colorado several years ago.
Family members said that she was a loving young woman and was loved in return. She was happy in her relationship with Wes and was looking forward to the future.
Family members said that Wes was non-judgmental and had a huge heart. Others describe him as selfless and a hero. He would have tried to rescue anyone in danger.

Wesley is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Glenda.
Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.
Pray for all who die while coming to the aid of another. They are the true heroes of this world. Amen.
Pray that Wiyanna and Wesley are in heaven. Pray that they are at peace and are with God. Amen.
