Joshua Stickland - U.S. Military

Spc. Joshua J. Strickland, age 23, of Woodstock, Georgia, died on September 21, 2013, at Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire while conducting range training in Gardez, Paktia Province, Afghanistan.

It has been reported that the attack happened inside the base and the attacker was an Afghan National Army soldier. This has not been confirmed at the time of this posting.

Joshua was assigned to Group Support Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Joshua graduated from Etowah High School in Woodstock, Georgia. Joshua joined the Army in June of 2008 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

This was his first combat deployment.

Military officials stated: “He was a young man, a patriot, a father, a son and a part of our brotherhood."

Friends describe him as a hard worker who loved his family. He had a very strong

Joshua is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, two daughters and a son.

Thank you for serving, Joshua.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Joshua.

Pray that Joshua is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
