The Taliban's Ideal Woman |
Swat is a valley and an administrative district near the Afghanistan border.
Her last name and her age have not been provided.
Sadia was a Police Officer.
She was shot and killed by her father-in-law Fazal Hadi (who is also her paternal uncle). It has been reported that her extended family did not approve of Sadia working and especially did not approve of her being a police officer. They insisted that she quit her job.
After numerous family disputes, she had taken refuge at the home of her parents. She had been living there for the past several months. There is no mention of her husband nor of his stand on this issue.
Tehsil Matta in Swat is known to be a very conservative, Taliban-dominated area where local customs and traditions do not encourage women to pursue education or to be a part of the workforce.
These Taliban supporters do not believe in women's rights. Women are not supposed to have real jobs, to be so bold as to be police officers, to venture outside of the home, or walk about without the Burqa, the head-to-toe covering mandated for women by the Taliban. The Taliban fear that a woman who works outside of the home may "meet men".
The police have arrested Fazal Hadi and are investigating.
The helping hand that the Taliban extend to women |
Sadia is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her parents; her brother, Haider Ali; and her son, Waqas.
God save us from the conservative freaks in Pakistan and Afghanistan - husbands, fathers and uncles - who try to keep women chained to the 14th century. They want things just as they were in 1399 A.D.
Pray for justice for Sadia. Pray that her murderer is punished for this heinous crime. Amen.
Pray that Sadia is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
