Karen Benjamin - a jogger killed in a hit and run in New York State

Karen Benjamin, age 56, died on July 17, 2013, at a hospital in Stony Brook, New York.

On the morning of June 23, 2013, she was struck by a hit and run driver as she was jogging on a street near her home in Coram, New York. The driver fled the scene.

Karen had remained in a medically-induced coma and underwent brain surgery and surgery to stop internal bleeding. The impact of this hit and run was so violent that doctors say she nearly lost both of her legs.

Karen worked as a medical assistant. She was a loving mother and will forever be missed.

Karen is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her two adult daughters and her brother, Robert Freedman.
