He was off duty and was on his way home at the time of this tragic accident.
John was a member of the Pennsylvania State Police. He had 23 years of service.
He was travelling between Emporium and Muncy, on a curved portion of roadway when his vehicle lost traction due to wet conditions. His vehicle crossed the center line and struck another oncoming car. Sergeant LaRose was killed in the crash while the two occupants of the other vehicle were injured.
John graduated from Muncy High School in 1980. He received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1984. John worked for R.C.A. in New Jersey in their aeronautical engineering department before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Following his discharge he worked as a charter pilot and flight instructor at the Williamsport-Lycoming County Airport.
He then joined up with the Pennsylvania State Police, where he flew fixed-wing aircraft in the aviation division. During his career he was assigned to barracks in Blakeslee (Fern Ridge), Hazleton and Montoursville, and was presently serving as station commander in Emporium. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police.
He had flown a plane for the Pennsylvania State Police for more than a decade, before the aviation unit in Montoursville was closed last year.
John was actively involved in youth sports activities in Muncy, where he previously served as past president of the board for the youth football program, resigning to accept his current position as Commissioner. He also volunteered time to the elementary youth wrestling program and previously coached little league.
Police comrades describe John as one of the finest people they have ever known.
