John Austin - Firefighter - Massachusetts

Firefighter John Austin, age 37, died in the line of duty on July 8, 2013, at his firehouse in Quincy, Massachusetts.

John was a member of the Quincy Fire Department. He had 10 years of service.

John and other Firefighters were preparing to leave the firehouse in response to an emergency call, when he suddenly collapsed and became unresponsive. John was treated by fellow responders and then transported to the Quincy Medical Center where he passed away.


Comrades stated that they weren't aware of John having any pre-existing medical condition.

John was born in Boston, but was a life long resident of Quincy. He graduated from Quincy High School.

John had spent four years of his life in the Marines, in the service of his country. He joined the Quincy Fire Department in 2002. He was active in his local firefighters Union and the Quincy Firefighters Relief Association.

John is described as a hard-working, respected, and well-liked young man from a

wonderful Quincy family. He enjoyed sports and politics and spending time with his son.

John is survived by many loving friends, comrades and relatives, including his parents, Lillian and John Austin; his sister, Jane Austin; his son, John William Austin; and his fiancée, Kari Brown.
