She had been sexually assaulted and severely beaten. Her body was partially clothed and dumped in a garden.
She was walking on her way to work at a local McDonald's restaurant. She was about 4 blocks from her home and a few hundred feet from work when the assault apparently occurred.

Joan was pregnant.
She came to Australia from the Philippines in 2009 and met her husband, Cory, in 2011. They married in 2012 in the Philippines. Friends describe them as madly in love.
Friends said that Joan was ecstatic to be pregnant.

She is described as bubbly, funny and always smiling. She is also described as sensible and level-headed and yet a hopeless romantic.
Joan is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her husband, Cory Ryther.
Pray for justice for Joan.
