Christopher Lorek and Stephen Shaw - U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation

Two Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation died in the line of duty on May 17, 2013, off the coast of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Both agents were participating in a training exercise as part of the agency's Hostage Rescue Team, based out of Quantico, Virginia.

The agents were in the process of fast-roping from a helicopter onto a ship when the helicopter encountered difficulties. The agents tragically fell a significant distance and suffered fatal injuries.

Deceased are:

Special Agent Christopher Lorek, age 41.
Special Agent Stephen Shaw, age 40.

The F.B.I. is in mourning over the passing of two brave and courageous men.

Christopher Lorek had 17 years of service with the F.B.I.

He is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and 2 daughters (ages 11 and 8).

Stephen Shaw had 8 years of service with the F.B.I.

He is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, his 3 year old daughter and his 1 year old son.
