Brett was a member of SEAL Team Six operating out of Virginia Beach, Virginia. SEAL Team Six is the unit that killed Osama bin Laden.
Brett was doing routine free-fall training at a facility in Arizona on Thursday when he collided mid-air with another locally based Seal. Bret was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, where he was pronounced deceased.
Brett was known as "Shady" to his buddies.
Brett graduated from Upper Dauphin Area High School in 2000 and enlisted in the Navy in July of 2000. The following year, he completed his SEAL training and was assigned to his first unit in early 2002.
Brett was highly decorated and had served in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Colleagues describe Brett as one of the best SEALs they have ever worked with. He was known as a professional, a true friend and a nice guy.
He is also described as a hero and an American patriot.
Friends stated that Brett wanted to be a Navy Seal since the eighth grade.

Brett is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his parents, David and Luann Shadle; his brother, Aaron; his wife and a son and daughter.
