Anthony Barfield Sr. - Law Enforcement - Georgia

Officer Anthony Barfield Sr., age 47, of Valdosta, Georgia, died in the line of duty on April 9, 2013. He passed away at a hospital in Thomasville, Georgia.

Anthony was the one and only police officer for the town of Barwick, Georgia, which has a population of under 400 persons.

He had 20 years of service in law enforcement.

He had attended at a domestic disturbance call in his jurisdiction and began having trouble breathing during the call. He was transported to the hospital where he passed away from a heart attack.

Anthony was known as Tony to his family and friends.

Tony was appointed Police Chief in Barwick in 2009.

Local officials stated: "Tony would work with the juveniles and the younger bunch. There's no recreation center here and he policed but he also did a lot of other things and taught and educated a bunch of the youth and adults."

Other officials stated that he was dedicated to the town and he will be greatly missed.

Tony is survived by many loving friends and relatives.
