Michael Crain - Law Enforcement - California

Police Officer Michael Crain, age 34, died in the line of duty on February 7, 2013, in Riverside, California.

Michael was a member of the Riverside Police Department. He had 11 years of service.

Michael and his partner stopped at a red light at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Arlington Avenue at about 1:30 am. A subject opened fire on their patrol car, fatally wounding Officer Crain and severely wounding his partner.

The suspect is Christopher Jordan Dorner, age 33, who has not been apprehended as of this posting. He is also linked to the recent shootings of police officers in Corona and the murders of Monica Quan and Keith Lawrence. Christopher Dorner was a Los Angeles Police Officer from 2002 until 2009, when he was accused of making false statements against another officer. He was fired. He has been on a killing spree in retaliation for being fired.

Michael Crain graduated from Redlands High School in 1996. He attended Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa for a year prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served two deployment tours in Kuwait as a rifleman in the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 3rd Battalion 1st Marines. He was a squad leader, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was then stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. 

After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Mike joined the Riverside Police Department. Mike served as a patrol officer, and was assigned to the SWAT Team. 

Family members stated that Mike had a big heart, and enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. 

Michael is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents Stephen and Cindy Crain; his brother, Jason; sister Leslie; his wife, Regina; his son Ian (age 10) and his daughter, Kaitlyn (age 4). 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
