Martha Atwater - died in Brooklyn, New York City

Martha Atwater, age 48, died on February 22, 2013, on a street in Brooklyn Heights, New York City.

An out of control pick-up truck struck her as she stepped out of a cafĂ©. She was buying cookies for her family. The truck jumped the curb at about 5:40 p.m. 

The driver stayed at the scene of the accident. Police state that there is no suspected criminality in this tragedy. 

Martha was transported to University Hospital of Brooklyn where she was pronounced deceased. 

Clifford, the Big Red Dog
Martha was an Emmy-award winning TV writer and had produced well-loved children's shows such as "Clifford The Big Red Dog," and "Goosebumps". She was also the author and co-author of several children's books. She was a graduate of Princeton University. 

Friends stated that Martha was enormously loved by her friends, family and community. 

She was involved in local issues in her neighbourhood and was on the Board of the Brooklyn Heights Association.

Martha is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her father, Julian Atwater; her sister, Sarah; her brothers John and Stephen; her husband, Tom Wallach, and their two daughters, Chloe and Olivia. Martha was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Atwater. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen. 

Let us pray that Martha Atwater is in heaven. Let us pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
