Katie Peters and Steven Kadar - Firefighters - Victoria, Australia

Firefighters Katie Peters, age 19, of of Tallandoon, and Steven Kadar, age 34, of Corryong, died on February 13, 2013, in the line of duty in Alpine National Park, Victoria, Australia. 

They were fighting a large blaze burning in the Park when a tree fell on their vehicle, killing them.

Katie and Steven were Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) firefighters. 

This was Katie's second fire season with the DSE. 

She had graduated from Tallangatta Secondary College in 2011. She was dreaming of studying to become a veterinarian after finishing her summertime job as a firefighter.

Katie's family members stated that she will always be held in the hearts of those who knew her.

Colleagues describe her as willing to do whatever was required for the performance of her job, friendly and down to earth.

Friends describe her as a happy girl, a hard worker and someone who was loved by all who knew her. 

Steven was an experienced firefighter. He had joined the Department in 2004. 

Department officials stated that he was well respected by his colleagues. 

Department officials describe the tragic deaths of Katie and Steven as heart wrenching.

Katie and Steven are survived by many loving friends and family members. 

Thank you for serving, Katie and Stephen.
