He was a member of the elite Jaegerkorpset based at the Aalborg Air Base. He was in Afghanistan to train and educate Afghan police.
He was killed by an improvised explosive device while on patrol with his unit.
René had served in the Special Forces for several years.
Military officials describe him as one of their most experienced soldiers. His comrades are in mourning.
René is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and three children.
