Kelsey Halterman and Garrett Barker - killed on a highway in Utah

Kelsey Halterman, age 21, and her fiance, Garrett Barker, age 22, died on January 19, 2013, in Utah.

The two who were living in West Valley, were on their way to work at the Utah Animal Care Center in Bountiful, when their pickup truck slid off an icy interstate overpass and crashed at the time of the accident.

The Utah Highway Patrol stated that they were travelling too fast for the road conditions.

They fell 30 feet to their deaths. Also killed was the couple's unborn child. Five dogs in the vehicle also died as a result of this accident.

Their child was scheduled to be born around January 27, 2013. The couple had arranged to be married in the Summer of 2013.

Family members describe the young couple as two of the kindest people who both loved animals and also were willing to do anything to help another person.

Father, place Kelsey and Garrett
on the stairway to Heaven
Garrett Barker is described as having honor and character.   Kelsey is described as an animal whisperer.  Even as a young child she could train animals and calm them down.

Family members describe the two as a perfect match. They shared a love of animals. Along with their five dogs, they had four cats, six snakes, a bearded dragon, a lizard and a tarantula. The couple were known for taking in foster animals, caring for them and then finding permanent homes for them.

Kelsey is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her mother, Jen Halterman; and her father Dan Halterman.

Garrett is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his adoptive parents, Mirjam and Jay Barker; his birth mother, Tonya Monard; and his birth father, Ron Boweter.

Pray for those who die young and tragically. Amen.

Pray for those who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.

Let us pray that Kelsey and Garrett are in heaven. Let us pray that they are at peace and are with God. Amen.
