Jeff Atherly - Law Enforcement - Kansas

Officer Jeff Atherly, age 29, died in the line of duty on December 16, 2012, in Topeka, Kansas.

Jeff was a member of the Topeka Police Department. He had 1 year and 8 months of service.

Officer Atherly and another officer were checking on a suspicious vehicle in a grocery store parking lot, on Huntoon Street, shortly after 6:00 pm.

Michael, Archangel, Patron Saint
of the Police, pray for Jeff
Several minutes after making contact with the multiple subjects in the vehicle, one them opened fire, fatally wounding both officers. A third officer on the scene was not wounded. The subject who opened fire fled in the vehicle. He was located in a home on Third Street where he barricaded himself for several hours. He was eventually shot and killed after exiting the home while carrying a firearm.

Jeff is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Thank you for serving, Jeff.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty. Amen.

Let us pray that Jeff Atherly is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
