Applying for a police job in South Africa

Employment in South Africa is so lousy that 34,000 South Africans recently applied for 90 trainee traffic cop positions. 15,000 men took part in a fitness test for these positions. 

These positions were with the KwaZulu-Natal traffic department. The tests were held at a stadium in Pietermaritzburg on December 27 and 28, 2012.

It is Summer in South Africa - the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. 

The persons in charge of the recruitment process ordered a 2.5 mile run in half an hour in searing temperatures to see who could take the stress and meet the force’s minimum fitness level requirement.

Six men collapsed and died from heat exhaustion and dehydration, while the seventh, who finished the race, allegedly committed suicide after learning he had not run fast enough.

Participants in the tests said that they had limited or no access to food or water. 

Therefore 7 men died over a job that they didn't even have.

The South African Government stated:  “As government we regret any injuries or loss of lives as a result of the fitness test we conducted over the past two days”.

No kidding, you assholes.  Who forces untested and unfit men off the street to endure physical tests of this nature in searing heat?  You should conduct these mass tests of thousands of men in the Fall or Winter in South Africa.
